WHO reports at least 12,000 patients in Gaza need medical evacuation

GENEVA, December 6, 2024 – The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced that at least 12,000 patients in Gaza urgently require medical evacuation due to the ongoing Israeli genocide in the region.

WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus shared this update on Friday, highlighting the severe medical crisis caused by the 14-month-long Israeli military assault in Gaza.

According to Dr. Tedros, a medical evacuation operation has successfully transported 8 patients out of Gaza with the assistance of the European Union’s Civil Protection Mechanism. Five patients were flown to Belgium, two to Spain, and one to Romania for necessary medical treatment.

Dr. Tedros expressed gratitude to the governments of these countries for their support in receiving the patients and to all partners and organizations that have helped facilitate the operation. He emphasized that the situation remains critical, with thousands more patients in need of urgent evacuation for medical care.
