WAFA

AMMAN, October 18, 2024 – King Abdullah II of Jordan emphasized the urgent need to halt the ongoing Israeli war on Gaza and Lebanon and to protect civilians during a meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Aqaba, southern Jordan, on Friday.

The king stressed the importance of de-escalating tensions in the region and enhancing the response to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. He called for intensified efforts to achieve an immediate ceasefire that would end the Israeli aggression on Gaza and Lebanon and to alleviate the suffering of civilians.

King Abdullah also highlighted the necessity of ensuring that humanitarian and medical aid reaches its intended destinations in Gaza. He reaffirmed the continued support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to fulfill its mandate effectively.

Additionally, the king warned against the ongoing attacks by extremist colonists against Palestinians in the West Bank and the violations of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem. He underscored the need for effective actions to create a political horizon aimed at achieving a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.

Meantime, Prime Minister Meloni expressed her appreciation for Jordan's humanitarian role in assisting the people of Gaza.
