Barack Obama’s Secret Terrorist-Tracking System, by the Numbers

Nearly half of the people on the U.S. government’s widely shared database of terrorist suspects are not connected to any known terrorist group, according to classified government documents obtained by The Intercept.

Of the 680,000 people caught up in the government’s Terrorist Screening Database—a watchlist of “known or suspected terrorists” that is shared with local law enforcement agencies, private contractors, and foreign governments—more than 40 percent are described by the government as having “no recognized terrorist group affiliation.” That category—280,000 people—dwarfs the number of watchlisted people suspected of ties to al Qaeda, Hamas, and Hezbollah combined.

Obama Is Preparing To Make One Of The Boldest Moves Of His Presidency — And It Could Stretch The Scope Of Executive Power

By the end of the summer, President Barack Obama will make what some activists and legal experts say could be the "boldest move" of his presidency as he prepares to move without Congress on immigration reform.

The coming executive actions to change immigration policy could become the defining moment in a second term marred by congressional gridlock. A mid fierce debate over the crisis along the U.S.-Mexico border they also could set up a potential political firestorm just weeks before the crucial midterm elections. Perhaps most importantly, Obama's coming executive actions could also test the limits of presidential power.

Secret serum likely saved Ebola patients

CNN

On Thursday, Dr. Kent Brantly thought he was going to die.

It was the ninth day since the American missionary worker came down sick with Ebola in Liberia.

His condition worsening by the minute, Brantly called his wife to say goodbye.

Thankfully, the call was premature.

Brantly is back on his feet -- literally -- after receiving a last-ditch, highly experimental drug. Another American missionary with Ebola got the same.

Brantly's and Nancy Writebol's conditions significantly improved after receiving the medication, sources say.

Shocking Analysis of the ‘Shooting Down’ of Malaysian MH17

The tragedy of Malaysian MH 017 continues to elude any light of clarity being cast over it. The flight recorders are in England and are evaluated. What can come of it? Maybe more than you would assume. Especially the voice recorder will be interesting when you look at the picture of a cockpit fragment. As an expert in aviation I closely looked at the images of the wreckage that are circulating on the Internet.

First, I was amazed at how few photos can be found from the wreckage with Google. All are in low resolution, except one: The fragment of the cockpit below the window on the pilots side. This image, however, is shocking. In Washington, you can now hear views expresssed of a “potentially tragic error / accident” regarding MH 017. Given this particular cockpit image it does not surprise me at all.

‘Wrong time, altered images’ Moscow slams Kiev’s MH17 satellite data

Satellite images Kiev published as ‘proof’ it didn’t deploy anti-aircraft batteries around the MH17 crash site carry altered time-stamps and are from days after the MH17 tragedy, the Russian Defense Ministry has revealed.

The images, which Kiev claims were taken by its satellites at the same time as those taken by Russian satellites, are neither Ukrainian nor authentic, according to a Moscow statement.

The Defense Ministry said the images were apparently made by an American KeyHole reconnaissance satellite, because the two Ukrainian satellites currently in orbit, Sich-1 and Sich-2, were not positioned over the part of Ukraine’s Donetsk Region shown in the pictures.

The CIA Just Confessed to Spying on Congress

Along with the Iraq War, freedom fries, and Dick Cheney shooting a friend in the face, the George W. Bush administration was known for hyper-aggressive interrogation and detention policies carried out in the name of preventing terrorism. With the US Senate Intelligence Committee's report on post-9/11 excesses by the intelligence agency set to go public in a matter of weeks, CIA officials are now coming out of the woodwork to sell the masses on their honor and integrity.

But their PR offensive hit a stumbling block on Thursday, when an agency spokesman formally admitted for the first time that the CIA illegally accessed Senate investigators' computers.

An in-house inspector general found that "some CIA employees acted in a manner inconsistent with the common understanding reached between SSCI (Senate Select Committee on Intelligence) and the CIA in 2009,” according to agency spokesman Dean Boyd.

Watchdog: U.S. may be funding Afghan terrorists through dubious business ties

The U.S. could be funding the very terrorists in Afghanistan it is fighting because of an Army oversight process that’s so bad it’s not weeding out businesses connected to insurgents, a top watchdog warned Wednesday.

In one instance, a contractor identified as being connected to insurgents was even given access to a U.S. and allied facility — and got paid for its work — because it hadn’t been prevented from receiving jobs.

In many other cases, individuals and businesses that were found to be connected to insurgents are still eligible to receive contracts and funding from the U.S. government because the Army is not debarring them, said the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction, John Sopko.

What Vox Forgot To Tell You About Medicare: The Future Is Not Nearly As Rosy As Reported

Did you hear the great news? According to the latest Medicare Trustees report, “Medicare isn’t going bankrupt,” and Vox has a chart to prove it! Not only that, “slow health cost growth has improved Medicare’s financial outlook, extending the program’s trust fund to last until 2030.” That’s four years longer than last year’s forecast!

It all sounds great until you hear what Vox unaccountably elected not to tell its readers.  All those rosy Medicare predictions are based on a scenario that no one with any common sense should believe. Fed Continues $10B Taper; Downplays Falling Unemployment Rate

The Federal Reserve said Wednesday inflation has ‘moved somewhat closer’ to its long-term target, but noted slack in the U.S. labor market. As such, the central bank cut its bond purchases to $25 billion a month from $35 billion, as expected. It also reaffirmed its plans to keep rates at historic lows until the economy improves further.

The central bank’s policy-making committee sees the risks to the outlook for economic activity and the labor market as nearly balanced and judges that the likelihood of inflation running persistently below 2% has diminished somewhat.

In the minutes of its June meeting, the Fed indicated it could conclude its bond-buying program in October as long as economic activity continues at its current pace.

Social Security: No more excuses

The government Monday released its 74th annual Trustees' Report on the finances of Social Security. The prognosis is stable for now, virtually unchanged from last year, but uncertain down the road.

The bottom line for the 95 percent of Americans who are either claiming or who will be eligible to claim Social Security: The combination of payroll taxes and interest income on surplus payroll taxes invested in U.S. Treasury bonds plus the surplus itself is enough to pay what is owed recipients in full through 2033 -- 19 years from now.

Israeli Military Calls Up Another 16,000 Reserves In Effort To Widen Gaza Offensive

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Thursday that Israel will destroy the Hamas tunnel network in the Gaza Strip "with or without a cease-fire," as the military called up another 16,000 reservists to pursue its campaign in the densely-populated territory.

Netanyahu's vow came as international efforts to end the 23-day-old conflict seemed to sputter despite concern over the mounting death toll, with more than 1,300 Palestinians, mostly civilians, and more than 50 Israelis, almost all of them soldiers, killed since July 8.

"We have neutralized dozens of terror tunnels and we are committed to complete this mission, with or without a cease-fire," Netanyahu said.

AP EXCLUSIVE: Some ambassadors who knew of brutal CIA interrogations told not to discuss them

WASHINGTON (AP) — A Senate report on the CIA's interrogation and detention practices after the 9/11 attacks concludes that the agency initially kept the secretary of state and some U.S. ambassadors in the dark about harsh techniques and secret prisons, according to a document circulating among White House staff.

The still-classified report also says some ambassadors who were informed about interrogations of al-Qaida detainees at so-called black sites in their countries were instructed not to tell their superiors at the State Department, says the document, which the White House accidentally emailed to an Associated Press reporter.

Lois Lerner Criticized GOP As 'Crazies,' 'Assholes' In Emails

WASHINGTON (AP) — A former IRS official at the heart of the agency's tea party controversy called conservative Republicans "crazies" and more in emails released Wednesday.

Lois Lerner headed the IRS division that handles applications for tax-exempt status. In a series of emails with a colleague in November 2012, Lerner made two disparaging remarks about members of the GOP, including one remark that was profane.

Rep. Dave Camp, who chairs the House Ways and Means Committee, released the emails Wednesday as part of his committee's investigation. The Michigan Republican says the emails show Lerner's "disgust with conservatives."

Feds Sending Illegals to Maryland Sanctuary County

The Obama administration is preparing to dump illegal immigrant juveniles in one of the nation's most prominent sanctuary counties in Maryland just weeks after Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley (D) reportedly begged the White House not to ship illegal immigrants to his state.

According to NBC Washington, "Montgomery County has been asked to house unaccompanied minors from Central America in a state facility until foster families can be found for them." Maryland is reportedly "looking to house up to 1,800 unaccompanied minors now in federal custody after crossing the border," and 25 of the illegal immigrant juveniles will be sent to Montgomery Country.

Gaza conflict: 'Israeli market strike kills 17'

At least 17 people have been killed and 160 wounded in an Israeli strike that hit a fruit and vegetable market near Gaza City, Palestinian officials say.

Hundreds of people were shopping in the market in Shejaiya, a spokesman for the Gaza health ministry said.

The attack came during a four-hour truce called by the Israeli military. Hamas, which controls Gaza, had rejected the truce as meaningless.

Meanwhile, Israel said three more of its soldiers had been killed in Gaza.

Palestinian doctors also said that another Israeli air strike after the partial humanitarian ceasefire was announced had killed seven people in Khan Younis.

After Failed MH17 False Flag, Washington Attempts Bold New Moves to Frame Russia

After their total failure to blame eastern Ukrainian Rebels and Moscow for what appears to be Kiev forces shooting down Fight MH17 on July 17th, Washington and its NATO allies have shifted their propaganda strategy in a new attempt to implicate Russia for international war crimes…

Over the weekend, Washington used its US ambassador to the Ukraine, Geoffrey Pyatt, to launch another fabricated social media post designed to blame Russia for “firing artillery over its border into the Ukraine”.
