Where have those Democratic protectors of the constitutional authority of Congress gone? Was it always just a partisan attack on Republican presidents?

CDC stockpiling Ebola gear even as national press goes dark on Ebola news

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is ramping up its acquisition of protective gear for U.S. hospitals that may have to handle Ebola patients, following a "sudden increase" in demand on its current national stockpile.

The federal health agency said in a November 7 statement that it is ordering an additional $2.7 million in personal protective equipment that will eventually be fashioned into 50 kits that can be deployed rapidly to hospitals if or when needed.

As reported by Reuters:

Some U.S. orders of protective equipment have been backlogged amid growing domestic demand, as manufacturers prioritize a flood of requests from aid agencies trying to curb the outbreak in West Africa.

Ebola establishes dictatorship in Sierra Leone

Since the Ebola outbreak began in May, Sierra Leone has become an authoritarian state. It's not one dominated by politicians, religious leaders, the army or the police – it's a dictatorship by virus. Ebola has taken over everyone's thoughts, actions, just about everything.

This notion struck me as I washed my hands. Authorities have wisely set up hand-washing stations everywhere to prevent the spread of Ebola. The stations reinforce the new codes of behavior that dominate what was once an easygoing, multicultural country — avoiding handshakes, avoiding crowded spaces, avoiding family, avoiding friends.

Our normal lives are gone. The streets are blocked off. Schools and business are closed. Cinemas and restaurants are shuttered. Even Freetown's lovely beach is lonely and deserted.

It began with an unexpected rapping on the front door.

When Wiley Gill opened up, no one was there. Suddenly, two police officers appeared, their guns drawn, yelling, "Chico Police Department."

"I had tunnel vision," Gill said, "The only thing I could see was their guns."

After telling him to step outside with his hands in the air, the officers lowered their guns and explained. They had received a report -- later determined to be unfounded -- that a suspect in a domestic disturbance had fled into Gill's house. The police officers asked the then-26-year-old if one of them could do a sweep of the premises. Afraid and feeling he had no alternative, Gill agreed. One officer remained with him, while the other conducted the search.

The FBI has seized the website of Silk Road 2.0, a major "darknet" marketplace, and arrested its alleged operator, Blake Benthall, in San Francisco. Iowa quarantines traveler over possible Ebola exposure

Someone in Iowa has been ordered into quarantine because of possible exposure to the Ebola virus, but the person poses no risk to the public, state health officials said Thursday.

The unidentified person had "some risk of being exposed to Ebola," the Iowa Department of Public Health said in a news release.

The department said the person has been directed to stay home and have their temperature taken twice a day, including at least once with a public-health official watching. The person has shown no symptoms of the disease, the department said.

Issa: Document dump shows Holder ‘at the heart’ of Fast and Furious debate

House oversight committee Chairman Darrell Issa told Fox News on Thursday that a massive trove of emails handed to his office on the eve of the elections indicates Attorney General Eric Holder was “at the heart” of deliberations over the Operation Fast and Furious scandal.

More than 64,000 pages of documents were given to the committee Monday night, a move Issa, R-Calif., said was a ploy to make sure they didn’t sway the election. But he said his staff is starting to go through them – already, one email exchange has surfaced in which Holder in 2011 blasted Issa “and his idiot cronies” looking into the botched anti-gun trafficking operation.

Report: Obama Administration Pressured News Outlets to Not Report Suspected Ebola Cases

At the urging of the Obama Administration, the Associated Press and other news outlets have agreed not to report on suspected cases of Ebola in the United States until a positive viral RNA test is completed.

The administration and liberal activists were upset with coverage in the run-up to the midterm elections.

NYC Department Of Health Actively Monitoring 357 Individuals For Ebola

The City is announcing that, after an additional physician review, one individual under quarantine because of contact with Dr. Spencer will now be subject to direct active monitoring. The individual poses no public health threat and is showing no symptoms.  This person's daily movements in New York City will no longer be restricted, and the individual will be assessed twice each day by Health Department staff.

Ebola: Why is WHO asking Canada to justify its VISA ban?

The World Health Organization has asked Canada to justify its decision to limit travel to this country from the West African countries combating Ebola.

The federal government announced Friday it would not issue new travel visas for residents or citizens of countries with widespread and persistent Ebola transmission. As well, it has put a halt on the processing of permanent residency visas for people from those countries.

Canada’s move contravenes the International Health Regulations which stipulate that in infectious disease outbreaks, countries should not impose trade or travel sanctions against affected countries beyond what the WHO has recommended.
