Greece And The EU Situation — Paul Craig Roberts

Related:Greece Proves Again Why Democracy is the Criminal Classes’ Great Fear

I doubt that there will be a Greek exit.

The Greek referendum, in which the Greek government’s position easily prevailed, tells the troika (EU Commission, European Central Bank, IMF, with of course Washington as the puppet master) that the Greek people support their government’s position that the years of austerity to which Greece has been subjected have seriously worsened the debt problem.

The Greek government has been trying to turn the austerity approach into reforms that would lessen the debt burden via a rise in employment, GDP, and tax revenues.

The first response of most EU politicians to the Greek referendum outcome was to bluster about Greece exiting Europe.

US Preparing Coup to Prevent Greece from Falling Under Russian Influence

“A putsch in Athens to save allied Greece from enemy Russia is in preparation by the US and Germany, with backing from the non-taxpayers of Greece – the Greek oligarchs, Anglo-Greek shipowners, and the Greek Church,” writes John Helmer, the longest continuously serving foreign correspondent in Russia not connected to the corporate media.

The primary tip-off something is brewing can be detected by the presence of Victoria Nuland, assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs, in Athens in March.

Nuland, The Guardian reported on March 17, “flew into the capital amid mounting US concerns that the great euro debt crisis has begun to pose a geopolitical threat.

New Documents Reveal DOJ, IRS, and FBI Plan to Seek Criminal Charges of Obama Opponents

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch today released new Department of Justice (DOJ) and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) documents that include an official “DOJ Recap” report detailing an October 2010 meeting between Lois Lerner, DOJ officials and the FBI to plan for the possible criminal prosecution of targeted nonprofit organizations for alleged illegal political activity.

The newly obtained records also reveal that the Obama DOJ wanted IRS employees who were going to testify to Congress to turn over documents to the DOJ before giving them to Congress. Records also detail how the Obama IRS gave the FBI 21 computer disks, containing 1.25 million pages of confidential IRS returns from 113,000 nonprofit social 501(c)(4) welfare groups  – or nearly every 501(c)(4) in the United States – as part of its prosecution effort.

Goldman Sachs shoehorned Greece into the euro by helping the Greek government to mask the true extent of its deficit

An American proverb which came into prominence late in the first decade of the 21st century states: "If you owe the bank a hundred thousand dollars the bank owns you. If you owe the bank a hundred million dollars, you own the bank."

Greece, the country where democracy was born, has had no trouble applying that paradox to its pile of sovereign debt, gambling on its eurozone membership as a bargaining chip to carry on with. You have to admire their balls.

Prime minister Alexis Tsipras said Greece's lenders – the European Central Bank, the European Commission and the International Monetary Fund – would now have to talk about restructuring the country's debt.

Greece debt crisis: Greek voters reject bailout offer

BBC

Greek voters have decisively rejected the terms of an international bailout.

The final result in the referendum, published by the interior ministry, was 61.3% "No", against 38.7% who voted "Yes".

Greece's governing Syriza party had campaigned for a "No", saying the bailout terms were humiliating.

Their opponents warned that this could see Greece ejected from the eurozone, and a summit of eurozone heads of state has now been called for Tuesday.

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said late on Sunday that Greeks had voted for a "Europe of solidarity and democracy".

Leaked: What’s in Obama’s trade deal

Is the White House going to bat for Big Pharma worldwide?

Politico

A recent draft of the Trans-Pacific Partnership free-trade deal would give U.S. pharmaceutical firms unprecedented protections against competition from cheaper generic drugs, possibly transcending the patent protections in U.S. law.

POLITICO has obtained a draft copy of TPP’s intellectual property chapter as it stood on May 11, at the start of the latest negotiating round in Guam. While U.S. trade officials would not confirm the authenticity of the document, they downplayed its importance, emphasizing that the terms of the deal are likely to change significantly as the talks enter their final stages.

When Greek Banks Reopen, Will All the Money Be There?

WSJ

Greek banks have been shut all week, putting a tight squeeze on the country’s economy. They’ll remain closed at least through Greece’s referendum on Sunday, but pressure will be fierce to reopen them as soon as possible after. Here’s a look at how that might—or might not— happen and at the question foremost in many Greeks’ minds: When the banks do reopen, will they still have their deposits?

They have almost no cash. As of the end of May, the latest official data, they had about €2 billion ($2.2 billion). People familiar with the system estimate the figure is now below €1 billion. They also have no new access to the emergency central-bank line that had been giving them cash — the European Central Bank froze that Sunday.

They simply can’t give withdrawing depositors all the cash they want.

Hillary’s Secret War

by Andrew P. Napolitano

In the course of my work at Fox News, I am often asked by colleagues to review and explain documents and statutes. Recently, in conjunction with my colleagues Catherine Herridge, our chief intelligence correspondent, and Pamela Browne, our senior executive producer, I read the transcripts of an interview Browne did with a man named Marc Turi, and Herridge asked me to review emails to and from State Department and congressional officials during the years when Hillary Clinton was the secretary of state.

What I saw has persuaded me beyond a reasonable doubt and to a moral certainty that Clinton provided material assistance to terrorists and lied to Congress in a venue where the law required her to be truthful. Here is the backstory.

Double trouble? IRS lawyer now heads Clinton email production

A year ago, Catherine Duval was embroiled in the scandal over former IRS official Lois Lerner’s lost emails.

Now the top government attorney is heading up another document project in the cross hairs of Congress: the State Department’s release of Hillary Clinton’s emails and Libya documents to the House Select Committee on Benghazi.

And Republican GOP investigators are raising red flags, accusing her and the State Department of stonewalling Congress by narrowly interpreting document requests and failing to disclose important information.

“The person in charge of document production at two different places on two different scandals has not been completely straightforward with us,” said Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), a top IRS and Benghazi investigator, in an interview.

Judicial Watch: Newly Released Documents Confirm White House Officials Set Hillary Clinton’s Benghazi Response

Judicial Watch today released new State Department documents showing that Hillary Clinton and the State Department’s response to the Benghazi attack was immediately determined by top Obama White House officials, particularly Ben Rhodes, then-White House deputy strategic communications adviser, and Bernadette Meehan, a spokesperson for the National Security Council.  The new documents were forced from the U.S. State Department under court order in a Judicial Watch Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit (Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of State (No. 1:14-cv-01511)).

Fluoridation May Not Prevent Cavities, Scientific Review Shows

Newsweek

If you’re like two-thirds of Americans, fluoride is added to your tap water for the purpose of reducing cavities. But the scientific rationale for putting it there may be outdated, and no longer as clear-cut as was once thought.

Water fluoridation, which first began in 1945 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and expanded nationwide over the years, has always been controversial. Those opposed to the process have argued—and a growing number of studies have suggested—that the chemical may present a number of health risks, for example interfering with the endocrine system and increasing the risk of impaired brain function; two studies in the last few months, for example, have linked fluoridation to ADHD and underactive thyroid.

California Vaccination Bill SB 277 Signed By Governor, Becomes Law

A California bill that removes all exemptions to vaccine requirements for school entry except those medically indicated has just become law. After the California Assembly passed SB 277 on Thursday and the state senate passed the same version Monday, Governor Jerry Brown signed the bill into law this morning.

“The science is clear that vaccines dramatically protect children against a number of infectious and dangerous diseases,” Brown wrote in his signing message. “While it’s true that no medical intervention is without risk, the evidence shows that immunization powerfully benefits and protects the community.”

Brown acknowledged the significant and acrimonious opposition – including comparisons to Nazi Germany – and controversy that has surrounded the bill since its inception, inspired by the outbreak of measles that began at Disneyland last winter.

Tunisia: Multiple Eyewitnesses Confirm Multiple Gunmen

TRUTH SEEKER

Numerous eyewitnesses at the five-star Riu Imperial Marhaba report that Seifeddine Rezgui had accomplices who aided him in his killing spree. Add to this the fact that initial reports said multiple gunmen were involved and Seifeddine Rezgui begins to look like a patsy set up to take the sole blame for an operation that involved more than one gunmen.

In fact one witness, retired police officer Steve Johnson, told of how he saw a second gunman in red shorts open fire on tourists on the beach.

Steve Johnson saw the second gunman in red shorts while he was taking cover.

Once the shooting had finished, Mr Johnson described the gunman to a high-ranking policeman who told him that a man matching the description was ‘dead as well’.

California Legislature passes mandatory vaccination bill

LA TIMES

A bill that would require mandatory vaccinations for nearly all children enrolled in schools is on its way to Gov. Jerry Brown’s desk after clearing its last legislative hurdle Monday afternoon.

The measure — one of the toughest vaccination bills in the country — has sparked heated and emotional debate in the Capitol since it was introduced in February in the wake of an outbreak of measles at Disneyland that ultimately infected more than 150 people.

The state Senate, which first approved the measure in May, voted 24-14 in favor of minor amendments to the legislation, which passed the Assembly last week.

Monday’s votes were cast mainly along partisan lines, with most Democrats voting in favor.
