BP Contractors Cover Up Oil With Sand!
PENSACOLA - Today, we've been hit with a number of calls and e-mails from people concerned about the oil they're finding beneath the surface of the sand on local beaches.
As we told you last week, Coastal Geologists, say it's a natural phenomenon for the outgoing tides to cover up the tar balls.
With more on what BP plans to do to clean up this sub-surface tar....
Take a look around....BP workers have left the scene.
There's plenty of oil still out here that they've left behind.

To the casual beach-goer it may not be noticeable. Let me show you.
Dan:
Lift up your foot like this."
Rachel Burleson:
"Is that oil?"
Dan:
"Did you not know what it was?"
Rachel:
"No."
By the afternoon, the BP workers came out in force, sifting the sand on the surface. But anyone building a sandcastle knows that the clean-up the BP workers are doing won't get all of the oil. Take a look at this. There's oil anywhere from two inches to 18 inches below the surface. But we're told bp has a plan to clean all this up.
So, we took BP spokesperson Lucia Bustamante out to the beach and showed her the oil beneath the surface.
Lucia:
"So this is the natural tidal wave"
Dan:
"Yeah I know why is it there?"
Lucia:
"Well now that I know where it is, I can talk to supervisors and get crews over here"
Dan:
"So this will be cleaned up by tomorrow morning?"
Lucia:
"Hopefully yes"
We're told the equipment to dig out the oil from underneath the sand can't work during the day because of the heat, but they will be working overnight.
