Border Wall Would Pay for Itself: Study

An updated analysis from the Center for Immigration Studies found that President Donald Trump’s proposed wall along the U.S.-Mexico border would pay for itself, even after using conservative estimates of the cost of illegal immigrants and accounting for future flows.

The director of the research, Dr. Steven Camarota, wrote that to pay for Trump’s requested $5.6 billion in funding for the wall must be able to prevent about “60,000 crossings or 3 to 4 percent of expected illegal crossers over the next decade.”

Camarota’s analysis is the result of calculating the cost of each illegal immigrant and comparing it to the cost of the wall. On day 20 of the partial government shutdown, Democrats continue to refuse to back away from their original $1.3 billion offer for border-security purposes, which does not include any funding for a wall.

More Americans Now Say Congress Should Do What Trump Wants, Poll Finds

More American voters want Congress to follow President Donald Trump’s lead this year compared to last year, according to a survey released on Jan. 9 by Ramussen, one of the most accurate pollsters in predicting the outcome of the 2016 election.

In a survey gauging the views of likely U.S. voters about the year ahead, 41 percent said that Congress should do more of what Trump wants. That is a 12 percent increase compared to the same time last year, according to Rasmussen.

Meanwhile, the number of Americans who want Trump to do more of what Congress wants has decreased by 8 percent from last year to 48 percent. Twelve percent of the respondents were undecided.

On the day the poll was released, Trump’s re-election campaign manager, Brad Parscale, said the president’s overall job approval rating had reached the highest point since the campaign began tracking it.

Hillary Calls to 'Counter Trump's Lies' on Border Wall, Gets Roasted Online

Describing Trump’s televised speech on Tuesday about the situation on the US-Mexico border as a “TV stunt”, Clinton urged her audience to “keep counteracting his lies about migrants and refugees with positive action”, though many users opted to criticise Hillary instead of heeding her advice

Former US Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton has announced that a fundraiser she promoted managed to gather around $100,000 ”to support groups doing critical work to protect kids and families at the border”, since Trump’s TV speech on Tuesday about the situation on the US-Mexican border.

Describing the president’s address as a “TV stunt”, Clinton urged her audience to “keep counteracting his lies about migrants and refugees with positive action”.

However, a large number of netizens took a dim view of Hillary’s statement, opting to give a piece of their mind to her instead.

3 former presidents used the National Emergencies Act

President George W. Bush flexed the National Emergencies Act in the days after the 2001 terrorist attacks, President Jimmy Carter used it during the Iranian hostage crisis, and President Barack Obama tapped it to handle the swine flu pandemic in 2009.

Now it’s President Trump who is eyeing the 1976 law, figuring it could be his ticket out of the shutdown showdown, allowing him to build his promised border wall without needing to get Congress to specifically approve the money.

The White House said no decision had been made in the run-up to Mr. Trump’s Tuesday night speech on border security, but the president was clearly eyeing the powers as a viable escape route.

Congressional Democrats and liberal activists warned of a constitutional crisis and promised they would fight any emergency declaration in the courts and in the halls of Capitol Hill.
