Justice Department inspector general has done separate report on James Comey

The Justice Department inspector general is preparing to release a report on the conduct of fired FBI Director James Comey in the Trump-Russia investigation, according to a number of sources with knowledge of the situation. The specific timing of the report's release is not clear.

The Comey report is separate from a larger inspector general report on the DOJ's handling of the Trump-Russia probe. That report, sometimes referred to by Republicans as an investigation into "FISA abuse," is expected to be released later.

It is not clear why the inspector general, Michael Horowitz, chose to write a separate report on Comey.

Ilhan Omar Denies Affair With Consultant as FEC Complaint Alleges She Illegally Paid Him Money

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) denied having an affair with a political consultant hired by her campaign as a federal complaint filed on Aug. 28 accused her of illegally funneling money to the man.

Omar paid E. Street Consulting nearly $223,000 since Aug. 2018, according to filings her campaign made to the Federal Election Commission. Her campaign also paid Tim Mynett $7,000 on July 11, 2018.

Dr. Beth Mynett said in divorce papers that her husband left her for Omar. Tim Mynett, a partner at E. Street, has been seen with Omar in a series of photographs published in recent weeks. Beth Mynett said that Omar even entered the Mynett home in Washington at one point and gave the couple’s 13-year-old son a gift.

Evidence Suggests Epstein Was Murdered, Lawyers Say

There’s far more evidence indicating Jeffrey Epstein was murdered than clues supporting the ruling that he committed suicide, the alleged sex trafficker’s lawyers argued in court on Aug. 27.

Lawyers for the 66-year-old, who was found unresponsive in his prison cell on Aug. 10 and declared dead about an hour later, said they have evidence suggesting Epstein was killed.

One of the lawyers, Martin Weinberg, told a judge that an expert hired by the family says injuries to his neck were more consistent with homicide than suicide.

A lawyer said the evidence was “far more consistent with assault” than suicide, reported Newsweek.

What we need to know from Horowitz report

There will be much to learn in Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s upcoming report on the Trump-Russia investigation, but most of it will likely boil down to just two questions:

• How much did the President Barack Obama’s Justice Department spy on the Donald Trump campaign?

• Was it justified?

Many Democrats would immediately protest the word “spying.” But the public already knows the FBI secured a warrant to wiretap low-level Trump adviser Carter Page a few months after Page left the campaign. The public also knows the FBI used informant Stefan Halper to gather information on other Trump campaign figures. And the public knows the FBI sent an undercover agent who went by the alias “Azra Turk” to London to tease information out of another low-level Trump adviser, George Papadopoulos.

Carter Page: FBI Wanted Me To Lie About Russians

MARIA BARTIROMO: You had an esteemed career. I want to start there because our viewers know that we've covered this story very effectively from the get-go, poking holes in this whole idea of collusion, poking holes in the FISA court situation, but you had worked with the government for a long time before they actually turned on you. Tell me your career as a government informant after you worked at the Pentagon and after in the Navy tell us about it.

CARTER PAGE: Well I got out of the Navy in '98 and I was on a research fellowship at a foreign policy think tank and that was actually the first time as a civilian (as you mentioned I spent a lot of time doing intelligence tasks in the military) but that was the first time when I actually did stuff as a civilian, and so one of the guys I worked closely with was Chris Stephens, who was the Iran desk officer at the State Department in '98-99, and we had a long ongoing dialogue, and so a lot of similarities between what happened with him, and the lack of responsibility by these Democrat administrations.

McCabe and Papadopoulos illustrate America's two-tiered justice system

The date of a meeting, that’s all the lie was about.

George Papadopoulos claimed that a meeting he’d had with the mysterious Maltese professor, Josef Mifsud, happened slightly before the green-as-grass 28-year-old was recruited into the Trump campaign. In reality, it was slightly after.

It wasn’t a very important lie. It was of no consequence to the FBI or the special counsel’s investigation. Papadopoulos was such an afterthought that the Bureau did not bother to interview him until late January 2017 — about 10 months after he met Mifsud. By the time Papadopoulos was charged, the Trump-Russia investigation had been ongoing for well over a year — it was already clear that there was no conspiracy.
